Music and Makaton

Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. We use Makaton to aid understanding particularly in SEND schools but across all of our work. Our approach is built around inclusivity and communication and many of our musicians are trained in Makaton.

The Point in Doncaster city centre is a Makaton Friendly Venue and you will find artists and staff using Makaton signing to greet people and answer questions. One of the highlights of our school year is the Sing and Sign performance with special schools across Doncaster, where students have written original songs with professional musicians and perform these alongside the accompanying Makaton signs.
